Hiking to Nam Xay

Nam Xay is one of the best viewpoints in Vang Vieng, and if you only have time for one hike, this should be it.

It takes only 15 minutes to reach to start of the trek from the hotel. Open from 6 am - 6 pm daily. You can ascend the 350m climb to Nam Xay viewpoint, which has a bamboo platform at the top where you can enjoy the views as well as two motorbikes that have been placed in the perfect spot for photos!

Hot air balloon ride

Vang Vieng is one of the cheapest places in the world to take a hot air balloon ride. Balloon flights take place at sunrise and sunset and fly over the serene Nam Song River, dramatic Karst mountains, and lush Vang Vieng rice fields. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Paramotoring

If you’re looking for something slightly more adrenaline inducing, take to the skies in a paramotor! This gives you a great chance to explore the beauty of Vang Vieng from the sky. The flight lasts for around 20 minutes, but the experience is truly priceless!

Blue Lagoon

There are a total of four beautiful blue lagoons located around Vang Vieng. All of them are a short tuk-tuk ride from the city center and are an oasis of calm and tranquility. Vang Vieng lagoons are unlike anywhere else in the world and are a must-visit during your time in the city. Don’t forget your towel!

Kayaking

Take a trip down the Nam Song River, passing through light rapids and alluring countryside. You’ll see a peaceful side to Vang Vieng, meandering past fishermen making their daily catch, and see the heart and soul of some of the more rural areas of the city.

Buddhist Temples

Vang Vieng has plenty of ornate Buddhist temples dotted around the city. Wat That, Wat Kang, Wat Si Sou Mang, and Wat Simixay Yaram are all within walking distance in the town. You’ll see the colorful temples carefully maintained by orange-clad monks during the busy city.

Rice Fields

One of the best Vang Vieng attractions is the rice fields located at Vieng Tara, on the opposite side of the Nam Song River.

The best way to reach the rice fields is by crossing the free bamboo bridge, which is a short walk from the city center. Walking wistfully through the rice fields is a great time for reflection and is super Instagram able!
